I have recently retired as an editor of a newspaper from New York and while continuing to write free lance, assist family business of renting our properties. Hence thought of sharing with you the sweet and bitter experience while dealing with Home Depot situated in Lakewood, NJ.

* We were impressed by the professionalism and dedication of Laurie Fontana, Customer Order Specialist (Flooring) who has been blessed with the virtue of patience and dedication. No wonder customers wait around her desk while she is busy helping others. * The quality of work done in installing the carpet was good. Impressed.

Now the subject I would have preferred not to write now or in future: While I ordered carpet for the top floor, bedrooms etc., had chosen laminated flooring for the ground floor. Since had hired painters and handymen, got the carpet ripped and found three uneven spots. Hence called two local businesses associated with such type of work and were told that the expense to level the ground would be between $400 to $500 that included three to four bags of good quality cement. However, when your sub-contractorโ€™s person by the name of Oscar came for installing the laminate on Thursday, May 11, 2017, he got in touch with his supervisor by the name of Brian and sent him the pictures of the uneven spots.

Later on he informed me that Brian would charge $1750 for the work including โ€˜13 bags of cement.โ€™ On being told that I had already contacted other businesses who had given quite a low quote for the job, he spoke to Brian again and for some strange reason this supervisor refused to explain to me how he came up with this figure. Found this behavior very unprofessional. Estimate of material required: Looking at the amount of material that we have to return to the store, the wastage that includes installation fees and the trouble in doing so, gives an indication that your sub-contractors willfully order more material that is needed. By the way, while understanding the many pieces of up to 4 feet of carpets being thrown, fail to understand the larger ones that remained unused.

Restocking fees: I can understand if customers order certain quantity of material and a restocking fee of 15% is levied on it. But fail to understand the reason customers have to pay this fee when the quantity was determined by Home Depot associated companies.

Just remembered the old adage: there is no free lunch in this world. (Order # H0902 3****)

Reason of review: Feel Cheated..

Monetary Loss: $600.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

Location: 1900 Shorrock Rd, Lakewood, NJ 08701, USA
