It's wrong that I didn't get approved for the home Depot credit card, my score is 579, it shouldn't make a difference.

Posting on an independent complaint site isn't going to help. Call Home Depot and get the number of the credit card company that issues their cards. Call them and get your card canceled.

Home Depot is fraudulent and no one at corporate cares to make it right and refund us customers

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Why does Home Depot have an absolutely appalling and completely embarrassing 1 out of 5 star review on the Better Business Bureau?

Because in many situations, like mine recently, Home Depot DOES NOT CARE about us customers at all.

They cheat us and commit fraud on many customers to steal our money while not providing us the product that we paid for.

Simply put, there really needs to be some sort of class action lawsuit on them. However, since they are a Fortune 500 company, they are well protected from any lawsuits and skilled at spinning the truth. Then like most large corporations their upper management people almost all do not care about doing the right thing.

In my recent fraudulent situation the Home Depot.customer service and supervisor used unprofessional, unethical and illegal lame excuses. To somehow not just fix the problem and refund me.

I will explain my simple and inexcusable situation below where I ordered two 5 gallon containers of roof coating that cost $344.75.I ordered them about 24 days ago online since my local Hays, KS Home Depot Store did not have any in stock.I will also show you the screenshots of their response to show you how crazy this is for them to even admit they were wrong while still doing nothing to fix the problem.

One of two 5 gallon containers that I ordered was damaged on the FEDEX truck while shipping to me so it was returned back to them before I ever received it.The other 5 gallon container was delivered to me and I never used it since I needed two of them to complete the job so I returned it to the store.

Long story short.

Home Depot uses a third party company TRE for returns when ordering online.Home Depot's online system somehow messed up and didn't automatically refund me back for the damaged item in shipping that was returned to them by FEDEX.Then the third party company TRE won't allow me to be refunded for the damaged item I never got or the new unused item that I returned to the store that they kept.

They simply kept it at my local store because we figured the store manager, Brendon, who is a well respected and remarkable manager as everyone knows, could figure this out hopefully and refund me.However Brenden has been sick for over a week now unfortunately, so all the assistant managers can't figure out how to get corporate to fix this problem.

Because even at my local Home Depot store in Hays, Kansas their computer system at the store won't allow it due to TRE having full control of all returns under my order #.

Therefore, since the Home Depot customer service on hold times were always 30-40 minutes each time I called Monday morning.I decided to use their new customer service text system on my phone. That still was a 40-50 minute wait, but at least they would text me back rather than me holding on the phone for basically that long.

Therefore, I choose to text someone on their Home Depot customer service text system rather than be on hold on the phone for so long. That online Home Depot person texted me saying they were sorry that the TRE system won't allow me to get a refund at all.

The customer service person at least admitted that their system messed up by not refunding me back on the product damaged and returned to them on the FEDEX truck. They said the reason this most likely happened was because their supervisor said my address was changed by FedEX during shipping. What they didn't know was I didn't change the shipping address nor did anyone else.

What happened most likely, was the address I put down for my order was our old family farm address.

Where no one has lived at for over 30 years so I could see how that might have caused their FedEx delivery system to double check things.

It is a valid physical address at our old family farm and UPS and the post office had been delivering to our farm for over a month. However, this would have been the first FedEx package to this address for over 30 years so I am sure their system had to update and validate this. Therefore, that might explain why Home Depot's crazy third party TRE system flagged my order somehow, but that still does not justify them not refunding me now and correcting the problem.

However, Home Depot's customer service and supervisor, who didn't even call me, but rather just sent me text messages.Said, they apologize, but they have no authority over their Retail Equations (TRE) merchandise refund verification system that denied me of ever getting a refund.

Therefore, even though I did not have either one of the two 5 gallon containers that I ordered from them for $344.75.That my only option to get my money back would be to dispute the charges with my bank on my credit card.

Can you believe this???Home Depot actually texted me to try and get my bank and VISA to eat these charges for two products they still have of mine.Yes, they are stealing and lying to me by selling me two products that I do not have from them now. Then they are trying to get the bank and VISA to pay me back rather than legally refunding me back.

Again, how can Home Depot commit so much fraud and theft on customers and keep getting away with this?

Even their outdated unreliable dysfunctional returns system in the store over the years commits theft and fraud on many returns of customers.I have brought this to the attention of many of the employees who obviously know about it and they say no one listens to them to ever fix it.

If you are not paying attention when you return several items you can lose a lot of money to them.Their faulty returns system basically can void an item or more out after they initially seem to be added to your returned items while scanning them. They will never fix this faulty fraudulent returns scanning system on their computers.

Why? -

Because it makes them a lot of money and they don't want to invest money in fixing something that will cause them to lose out on taking customers' money.

There needs to be a class action lawsuit against Home Depot because this just happened to me as I am sure it happens to so many others.

Then to make it worse, an assistant manager at the store, Brittany called me today since no one at my local Home Depot in Hays, Kansas has called me back all week to find a way to refund me back.Again, the store manager, most likely could figure it out, but he has been sick so it is not his fault at all.

Therefore, Brittany, an assistant manager called me today. She disturbingly and disrespectfully told me the only way for me to get refunded my $344.75,was to keep calling TRE even though I told her they won't fix the problem.

Brittany knows I spend over 2 hours on text messaging customer service and talking to TRE already,And yet, she couldn't call them or take care of this problem, but she wanted me to keep calling them and spend more hours of my time to get my money back.

Sadly and disturbingly, Brittany didn't care if I was the customer or care about me just like Home Depot online customer service and TRE doesn't care either about taking care of us customers.

Home Depot is a heartless cold blooded money driven company.Home Depot will take your money even though they don't provide you with the products you ordered. Then they will illegally and unethically want you to call your bank to get them to dispute the charges so they pay for it and not them.I have all the screenshots of them even telling me to do this which I will attach to my case.

Then Home Depot doesn't care that I spent over 2 hours already trying to get my stolen money back from them.Home Depot is all about the money and has no truth in them.Yes, without a doubt there is some wonderful people who work for Home Depot just like any other company.

However, if you don't fortunately get a hold of those caring people you are screwed like in my situation. Then a lot of wonderful people who do work for Home Depot know if they try and speak out on something they see wrong with the company.Even something that is defrauding us customers and stealing our money, that the corporate office simply does not care and will not listen.

Overall, Home Depot is just a typical, unethical, dysfunctional company with lame excuses and no truth in them. They love the profits and money and could care less about us customers. That is exactly why the Better Business Bureau has them with a 1 out of 5 stars with thousands of customers like myself clearly stating why this is the case.

Contact your credit card company and dispute the charge. If they side with you the purchase amount will be returned to your account and they will charge the amount back to Home Depot. Your credit card company won't be out anything.

Lying in advertising.

I purchased 500 square feet of this flooring from Home Depot, based on the misleading information provided by Home Depot. In addition to disruptive dates of delivery and disruption in delivery location, when installation began, I learned that the material was not as advertised. The Home Depot add, listed below, states multiple falsities. First, the engineered hardwood flooring is not hardwood as listed in material details. 90% of this floor is particle board, not wood layers. Thin layers of wood were glued on to the particle board for the impression of this product being wood. This is called wood veneer, not engineered hardwood. If I wanted particle board, I would have ordered laminate flooring for ½ the price. Second, the size of the floor, as advertised, is also a lye. As seen, in attached photos, the length of the product varies between 10 inches to 57 inches, not 48 inches as listed by Home Depot. Also a 48 inch length can not be variable; more misinformation. Additional misinformation includes no undergarment required when installing on to concrete flooring. So when the moisture seeps from the porous concrete into the particle board floor, and the floor swells and warps and splits, Home Depot will deny all responsibility and will refuse to compensate for the installation of *** flooring that they sold as quality.

I would like Home Depot to remove all of the flooring currently in my house and replace it with real engendered inch thick or thicker. That means flooring that only contains layers of wood, like plywood, without cheap fillers like particle board. I expect this done without Home Depot charging me additional costs. Less then ½ of one case has been installed and will need to be removed by Home Depot.

Unfortunately you do not understand flooring. Engineered hardwood flooring is a veneer over an engineered core, which may be plywood or other core such as MDF.

If you read the installation instructions which are available on the Home Depot website it clearly indicated you must check the concrete for moisture. If you have a damp surface the instructions indicate a vapor barrier is needed. no one wants a floor installed with rows of 48" pieces side by side. You will find a variety of lengths totaling 48" in the package.

This allows for easy staggering of pieces without having to do as much cutting. What they are selling is correct, you just don't understand how this product is manufactured, sold and installed.

Home Depot Abandoned the Job, Then Disappeared

Home Depot Abandoned the Job, Then Disappeared

I purchased a Maytag dishwasher from Home Depot along with professional installation. The installers showed up, took one look at the space, and walked away citing missing side panels as their reason.

These were cosmetic trim pieces, not structural or code-related. My home was inspected just weeks before (April 2025) and passed with zero electrical or code issues. The previous dishwasher had been installed and working in the exact same space for years. After multiple follow-ups and vague excuses, I had to install the dishwasher myself with no professional training.

It's now working perfectly. There was nothing preventing their team from doing the job except a lack of desire to do it. Home Depot has yet to issue a refund for the service I paid for, nor have they taken accountability for the experience. I wasted time, lost work, and got ghosted by their customer care team after being told a manager would review it.

That was days ago.

I highly advise others to think twice before trusting Home Depot for appliance installation. If it's not 100% cookie-cutter, they'll leave it behind and vanish.

What is supporting the countertop? If you are using the dishwasher to support the countertop this is not a proper installation, and if this is the case it is the reason they wouldn't install it that way.

Rather than being an AH why didn't you just have your landlord return it to the store they bought it at?

Guest

Everyone purchases in good faith. That doesn’t warrant an exception to store policies present and in place prior to the purchase.

Guest

In your “Final Question “, the answer you expect is what everyone would want and would invalidate the need for store policies. If you can’t or won’t abide by their policies, move on.

Home Depot and damaged appliances... 4 times!

Home Depot and damaged appliances... 4 times!
Contains 1 confidential file for company representatives
Original review updated Jan 19, 2025

Timeline.

12/7/24: Appliances ordered

12/21/24: Delivery of stove and refrigerator

The electric stove was unpacked and installed without issue.

The refrigerator was installed. During the installation, the delivery men accidentally made a dent on the side of the refrigerator that will be visible (right side).

I was offered a 15% discount but elected to have it replaced with a new undamaged refrigerator.

1/4/25: Re-delivery of refrigerator. The driver removed the packaging and inspected it. He called me and said that the stainless steel had noticeable waves (a defect) and he was going to return the refrigerator.

1/11/25: Another attempt to receive a new refrigerator delivery. Again, a damaged refrigerator.

I had the driver leave it on the truck and will wait again for another refrigerator.

1/18/25: Another refrigerator was delivered and had damage on the right side yet again. This time, I asked my tenant to see if the multiple dents would be visible if it were installed. He measured and said some were visible but not too bad. Maybe if you decorated the refrigerator with magnets they would be hidden.

As I am tired of all the inconveniences for my tenants and myself managing the deliveries from Chicago, I agreed to accept the refrigerator with a 15% discount.

I wanted at least $200 off, but your customer service representative said he could only do $150.

I am just letting you know I have spent a lot of money with Home Depot. Over the years I have bought many appliances, flooring materials, paint etc. I have several properties. I am done getting appliances at Home Depot.

Best Buy will be my go-to since I have yet to have an issue with their deliveries and quality control. As I described, all 4 Frigidaire refrigerators arrived either damaged or with a major flaw.

I am completely disappointed in the recent events and being offered $150 for all my trouble.

I hope you take this letter and make some improvements to avoid these kinds of issues in the future.

The fridge shown is the best one and I accepted it as it had the least damage and most of it won't be visible when pushed back. However, it still shows a bit.

Why are you blaming Home Depot? Having sold appliances at one of their competitors I have some insight into appliance delivery.

At least in my area their appliances are delivered directly from the manufacturers warehouse by a logistics company working with the manufacturer. Discounts for damage are set by the manufacturer.

With the thin metal the use on refrigerators any more it isn't uncommon to see wavy or rippled sides. Since the sides are typically either fully or mostly covered the manufacturers don't seem too concerned about it.

Because that's where he bought the item. Nobody is interested in the finite dealings and inner workings.

Home Depot delivered the item so they are responsible. I'm not interested in they use a third party company.

They hired them so they are STILL ultimately responsible. This isn't difficult.

Screwed up my order and lied to me

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I ordered six blackout roller blinds; one was a different size from the five. They were sending five of them to the Home Depot store, and one of them got shipped to my house—the oddball.

I called two days after the supposed delivery date, and they lied to me and said FedEx had lost them. I went on my email, and it said they were in the store the whole time. They had already sent them back by the time I called them out on it. I went on their website, where I had ordered them previously, and they had raised the price by $20.

They did not offer me any kind of compensation or even try to sell me a different color. Great customer service—that's who I want working for me to try to make me more money. What a joke! I wonder what person got my blinds; they obviously needed them more than me.

They ruined my holiday for Mother's Day and Memorial Day. I had no curtains or blinds in my window, and I had just remodeled my whole house, and I had company.

It was so embarrassing not to have anything on my windows. Thanks a lot, Home Depot, liars.

Misleading and false delivery promises

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Home Depot delivery promises are nothing but lies.

Do you want to be inconvenienced? Do you want to do all of the heavy lifting?

Then order from Home Depot. Home Depot sent me an email telling me to expect a delivery of flooring and undergarment, Thu, May 15. But at 8:30am May 13, half of the order was dropped off in the street. Not at the door as promised.

Home Depot advertises: Delivery on Your Schedule* From our store to your door, arriving when it's convenient for you.

*Subject to availability.

What Home Depot delivery services promised on their site, is not what they actually provided. When ordering the flooring, options for delivery were to have the items brought into the house for 30 dollars more and to bring in to any room of my choice for 60 dollars more. I chose the basic service since it stated that the delivery will be to the front door.

After the shipment was left out in the street, I called Home Depot and was told that the delivery was supposed to be to my driveway or porch, even though that is not what was stated on the Home Depot site when i placed the order. If the delivery was supposed to be on to my porch, this would mean close to my front door.

But that was not where the delivery was left. The flooring was left out in the street since I do not have a driveway and my porch is a whole 2 steps up. I had to find someone to help me drag the heavy cases of flooring out of the street. The 2 men that delivered the flooring never bothered to offer their help, not even for money.

Home Depot delivery services are no better then any other stores.

Do not believe the lies that are advertised on their web site.

If you can get it cheaper from another store, go for it. You will not receive any better service from Home Depot.

Improper installation and property damage order number WN1211****

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have purchased an appliance package from Home Depot with delivery and installation. The Home Depot crew that came to install the appliances were in a rush and installed the microwave inappropriately, damaged my brand-new floor (only two days old, I just got it installed), and incorrectly connected the dishwasher after refusing it at first, saying I needed a contractor to come and install it.

After insisting that I paid and he should install it, he did it wrong. As the dishwasher didn't work, he told me there was no electricity and I should call a certified electrician to fix it. I was surprised as there was a dishwasher that worked, and this was just a replacement of the working appliances. I called an electrician who said that the dishwasher was not only incorrectly connected but also initiated an electrical outage that kicked the breaker out and disconnected all my outlets and appliances connected to the same breaker.

I had to pay additional money for the electrician to connect my dishwasher (in addition to the money I already paid Home Depot for installation) and to fix the breaker, and I cannot even imagine how much it would cost me to replace the flooring, as even though it's not big, for that to be replaced, the entire kitchen floor needs to be removed and reassembled. I would really appreciate it if someone responded to me and helped me resolve my issues, as I was promised multiple times that someone would call me but never did. I am not the person that usually complains, but this was way over my level of tolerance. On the side, I have a legitimate reason to believe that the Home Depot crew purposely damaged my floor as they were upset because we asked them to install the dishwasher (as I know regarding this, I have a legitimate reason, as he obviously didn't know how or didn't really want to as he was in a rush.

He said he had 12 more stops and didn't plan to stay the entire day at my place).

I was hesitant to leave such a negative review and hoped to resolve this internally with Home Depot, but they failed to respond. Now my disappointment has extended far beyond as they failed to hear me as a customer and showed me absolute disrespect.

Atrocious Customer Service, Rude unprofessional Call Center Staff, Corporate Indifference

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I applied for a Home Depot credit account to take advantage of a financing offer to purchase a new washer and dryer.

When I went to set up the account to make the payment I found out Citibank who is Home Depot's vendor only gives the option of paying your bill by giving them unfettered access to your checking account. They will not give you the option of using a debit card or credit card.

This is becoming commonplace and businesses are doing this because then they can and will deduct money out of your account at will if they think you owe them money.

Recourse for inaccurate charges are almost nonexistent for this form of payment unlike a debit or credit card which is why they do it.

I called Home Depot to voice concerns about this practice after I was hung up on repeatedly by the overseas call center they use that dovetails into their system. I am a veteran with nearly 70% hearing loss and they repeatedly hung up on me saying I was "yelling" at them. In fact they were looking for excuses to disconnect the calls as is always the case in these overseas call centers since they know they are immune from any accountability and nothing will be done. This conduct is actually a violation of my civil rights under the Americans with Disabilities law and I have already filed a formal complaint against Home Depot with the office of civil rights.

Just as a side comment for those that think this is a citibank issue it is NOT.

Home Depot contracts with Citibank to manage this and that means that HOME DEPOT is ultimately responsible for every single decision and interaction that occurs with Citibank regarding a home depot account.

I sent an email to Home Depot Corporate which was ignored. I spent one entire day and half of the next trying to get a supervisor on the phone. The final straw was when "Gabby" who was extremely rude and unprofessional refused to put her supervisor on the phone. She stated that the issue I was calling about was not something her supervisor could address and refused to transfer the call.

When I then said i wanted to speak to her supervisor about her unprofessional conduct she said that wasn't the reason I called and she wouldn't transfer the call. That was the final straw.

I then had to go to the store and give the manager a piece of my mind and he contacted someone at citibank who then told me you could pay your bill with your debit card. When i asked where that was outlined she said it's not. She said you have to call and ask for that payment option to be added manually by a representative.

I pointed out to her that nowhere on their webpage is that information provided.

There is much more, but essentially I will never step foot in a Home Depot in until those employees are dealt with. If Home Depot continues to ignore me they WILL come get the Washer and Dryer regardless of it being past return date, and they will provide me a 100% refund.

I will then pay off the remainder of the card the next day and close the account.

This is a company that treats its customers like trash. They do business with unethical vendors, and they ignore their customers concerns and complaints.

What credit card company lets you pay a credit card bill with another credit card? Don't you realize they would have to pay a fee to the credit card company or bank to use a credit or debit card?

Pay your bill with a check or use your banks bill pay service. Your complaint is absolutely absurd.

Both services are free. You are the one that has to set the service up. Not Home Depot.

Home Depot is only required to be compatible with both services which they are. Who do you think you are not taking personal responsibility?

It's wrong that I didn't get approved for the home Depot credit card, my score is 579, it shouldn't make a difference.

They totally ignored me, so I have erased them from my shopping venues.

Original review Apr 22, 2025
It took me, an 81-yr-old ordering an item that, including tax and delivery, totaled $21.79 53 minutes and 45 seconds to successfully complete, ONLY after insisting that I needed to speak to a supervisor. The person who initially was supposed to help me, giving the name Rachel, could not complete the order, continually telling me that my credit card had been declined (and then when I tried a debit card, telling me the same thing, also twice).

She also had me input my information after hearing a beep, which I did a few times. When she finally agreed to have the supervisor summoned, because RACHIEL HADN'T REFRESSHED THE SCREEN SHE WAS WORKING ON, the supervisor also told me that "your home address and card address don't match so despite your seeing on screen that both the credit and debit card payments had been successfully received, in fact they weren't." When I expressed my utter despair of ever doing business with Home Depot, obviously the supervisor refreshed Rachel's screen, and within a minute the order was paid for. I have never been so abused by any other company I've done business with! I am grateful to the supervisor who finally resolved this, but it took her about ten minutes to do so, unreal.

Mind boggling stupidity

I was going to purchase a washer and dryer due to the special financing.

The Washer and Dryer, which were both able to be delivered in the next week were put off until May, 21st because the 30.00 adapter to stack them was on "backorder" until then.

Of course I went to the LG website and could purchase it there as it's listed in stock so why it would be on backorder at Home Depot seems like they more of a lie to delay deliveries. The item also was available for immediately pickup at Lowes.

I called customer service and explained I wanted to make the purchase but I couldn't wait over 3 months to get my washer and dryer replaced.

I asked them if I could purchase the item from LG and I'll have it available.

They told me no, the item had to be purchased from Home Depot or they would not stack the items. This is extortion and don't waste my time with comments about they have to know it's safe. I believe the original item in the original packaging from the manufacturer qualifies as safe.

The agent then tells me that I can go to the store directly and see if the item is available in person even though the website says it is on display, (these items are never on display anywhere) while at the same time telling me it's unavailable for pickup. I then tell the representative that they expect me to drive to the store to see if they have the item for the privilege of allowing them to purchase additional items and giving me more of my money.

That's not how it works.

Home Depot needs to learn how to value their customers. This was one of, if not the most ignorant, brain dead reasons to lose a 2000.00 sale.

it's literally remarkable.

In addition I won't be doing anymore shopping at the Home Depot after this. I'll do my business with Lowes until they figure out how to treat their customers with respect.

Cons:
  • Worthless horrible customer service
  • Dont value their customers
  • Idiotic policies

Preferred solution: I want an apology and for them to change this idiotic policy

User's recommendation: take your business elsewhere.

You are much better of making a purchase like this in a store rather than online. Working with a salesperson in the store they can confirm the right stacking kit is being ordered and confirm whether it was available or not. They will also know more about what local communities may require for installation as some require plumbers for gas or water hook up.

Then go to Lowe’s. Why would you waste your time at Home Deoot?
