Home Depot - Paint sale misleading
I would NOT reccoend the Home Depot store in The Dalles, OR.
My husband is remodling a house that was pretty much destroyed by the previous tentant. We went to Home Depot for at least the 3rd time that week, to buy paint. They were having a "great" sale on Behr paint, 20% off.
Well, we got to the register with 3 (5 gallon) buckets of paint and some other miscelleneous stuff and the total was more than we thought. When questioned the cashier explained that the paint was a mail in rebate. When the guy who mixed the paint was mixing it he never mentioned mail in rebate.
I went to look at the sign and sure enough in small print it did say "mail in rebate" well I asked for a manager. The manger came and said something like What do you want me to do about it? I explained that I thought the signs were misleading and he infomred me that all of thier paint sales are mail in rebates, like everyone should know this? Anyway I felt he was very rude and not at all helpful. We bought only the 1 bucket that we had mixed, thank goodness the others were white, and left with just that. I hope that they feel this in the finacial center becuase we still have all of the flooring, some things in the kitchen and the bathroom that we need to fix but will not be supporting this business.

Wouldn't a mail in rebate still save 20% on the paint? It usually isn't a big deal.

Just because you can't read a sign--dont blame the store!! I have been buying paint for 10 years AND NEVER once has it been a discount other than a rebate---your a complete *** and just proved it the the paint buying world!
A rebate is not the same as a sale in that sales tax is paid on the full price including the rebate, where as a sale you only pay tax on the sale price. In Michigan it is presently 6%, so a $5.00 rebate then is actualy $4.70 because you have paid sales tax on the $5.00. I would say that a rebate is not a sale, but just that, a rebate, just like an income tax refund is not a sale, but a refund of money already paid by you, minus the sales tax on it.

Have nad no trouble at Home Depot. The rebates come quickly. Vent about something that's not your mistake.

A lot of people today only see what they want to see and miss the fine print and because you were in the wrong you feel like you have to put the blame on someone else. I'm not perfect and I make my mistakes, but at least when I do, I just keep my mouth shut and take what I get coming to me.

It's really no big deal because you still get the sale price.

I WORK IN THE PAINT DEPARTMENT OF HOME DEPOT. it clearly says on every paint commercial, every newspaper AD, and every sign ON THE PAINT AISLE, and every rebate coupon you recieve when the paint is mixed, that it is a MAIL IN REBATE!
because the $5 back is offered from BEHR not HOME DEPOT. so obviously it would have to be a mail in rebate. the manager probably laughed his *** off after you left because you even stated yourself that u saw it on the sign. wow.
and P.S.
on the rebate coupon it also states you can go online to recieve your rebate and you get it in 2-3 days, instead of weeks in the mail. learn to read.
We just bought 8 gallons of BEHR solid stain for our fence on the last day of sale "$5 back for each gallon" by BEHR company. While buying the paint the Home depot guy said that he would give extra 10% off if we buy more than 4 gallons. So we purchased the same day we went. But by the time of billing he said that the pro-desk people are not there and to come back to adjust the bill.
I applied for my mail-in-Rebate for the paint.
So next day I went and they did cancel my first bill and redid the whole thing with 10% off.
I called the BEHR company mail-in-Rebates to ask that should I resubmit the mail in offer since the first one was cancelled. They say that since the new one is after the offer expiration and also their offer is not valid with the store 10% off I would not get the $5 per gallon mail-in-rebate !!.
Why the heck didn't the Home depot guys tell me that and made me trips after all for this ???
I am trying to call the Home depot guys and see what they would say. The
guy at pro desk told me to give the new bill if they ask for the receipt while he redid my bill.
I am trying to contact the Home depot people (the paint department guys are in the MEETING !!!!)

Um.... almost all paint sales are mail in rebates! How often have you painted?!
I did the mail in rebate. Super easy.
If you have to crab about it you aren't getting any sympathy. We did ours online so no stamp was involved. We got a check.
You get your money back. What are you crying about?
I've never had a problem with Behr paint, I have used many different brands of paint and prefer it to the others. I've always received my rebates, never had a problem with that either. Home Depot has always been my store of choice.
