I took a Home Depot promotional offer by purchasing $1000 worth of merchandise for a "no interest for 24 months" in August of 2012. I also obtained another promotional offer from them for a different purchase ~$750 for "no interest for 6 months" in June of 2013.

When I make a payment, Home Depot CC automatically distributes 50% to the promotional ending in December of 2013 and 50% to the promotional ending in September of 2014. I wonder how many Home Depot shoppers know that you are required to call in after you make your payment and request that they distribute 100% of the payment to the offer expiring first?

I am so mad about this trick that I won't buy from Home Depot again--and I will be sure to call in each month after I make my payment to tell them to apply it to the promotional expiring sooner. SEems like this might be one of those loopholes that the CC companies were concocting at the very time the CC protection act was being formulated.

I have paid far in excess to my min payment due. I just had a 24 month promo balance expire without any notification/ warning from Home Depot.

Apparently very little of My payment was paying down this balance and they hit me for $1700 on a $2300 purchase?

Wtf! Iโ€™ll be tearing up their card now and Will never shop there again

I think that this is outrageous myself. They should offer you promo payments and let you choose to accept or decline at time of purchase.

If you accept they should automatically put any amount above minimum payment on the promo purchase or at least have an option on how to dstribut your payment. For example, instead of just Other on amount options it should have a line for each thing and how much you want to pay.

I pay my Mortgage on line and there is a line for regular payment (which you are obviously paying, and extra lines for additional principal, additional interest, additional escrow. If a morgage company can do that, certainly a big bank like Citibank could do that also.

Thank you for posting this. I had no Idea and could not figure out why after paying for months on my account my promotional balance wasn't paid off.

Every time I try to pay off a promotional balance, they either enter the wrong payment account number or reverse my payment with no explanation. Then, thinking I have paid the balance and all is good, I'll get hit with a late payment fee and all that deferred interest.

This last time, I called on four separate occasions to get it resolved. They reversed the fees and credited back the charged interest, but imagine if I hadn't had so much time on my hands to be up their *** about it?

I feel like this is a systemic scam at CitiBank. If it had only happened once, I'd be more forgiving.

but three times over the course of a year is evidence of a deeper problem.

Has anyone else had this experience? Perhaps a class action is in order.

The credit card is managed by Citibank, be mad at them, or at yourself for not reading the details, no reason to be mad at Home Depot. They just have a logo on the card.

I am sad to say I have been duped by Homedepot also. We used the 24 month 0% promotional offer to have our roof replaced, which expires in May of 2014.

I assumed like all times before my additional payments were going towards my oldest promotional balance. I have just now found out that none of my extra payments have gone towards the balance and I am due to be charged 1500+ in interest in a few months. The lady on the phone told me she could only go back 1yr to correct the problem , but then proceeded to tell me that we had other (newer) promotional balances that were paid off first. Mind you Homedepot gives you 6 months no interest automatically when you spend over 299.00 They do not ask you if you want this promotion they just give it to you.

They also do not tell you that they will apply your additional payment towards the newest promotion instead of the oldest promotion first! Please note she also told me that you need to call in to have additional payments directed to your promotional balances.

I asked her when this new process had been implemented and she said 2010. Mind you no where on my statement does it say this!

The Home Depot credit card is through a credit card company, I believe its GeMoney not Home Depot so why are you complaining about Home Depot???

Note to Scotmarshall4636...You are wrong about no interest promotions, they are everywhere. What you don't see anymore is no payment promotions.

They problem people had was they didn't have the money when the balance was due and had racked up a ton of deferred interest. Now payments are required by law to reduce what is owed at the end of the no interest period.

Home Depot, like every other company in the US has not had no interest promotions for at least three years( it may be longer) because of government regulations. There are minimum payments of 1-3% of the balance that must be paid by law now.

So if you were only making minimum payments until now, when you made the new purchase it may seem like they are doing something wrong if not, call the manager at the store and find out if they can call the separate credit company that you signed an agreement with to see if they can figure it out.

If they are un willing to help call the customer care line at 1-800-homedepot. Much better idea than being mad because of your own lack of finding out why!

Home Depot, like most places that offer a credit card, dont own the card. Citi Bank is the issuer of the card.

They are the wnes that determine what is applied to what and when. Dont take it out on home depot.

Take the time to read the credit agreement you signed when you opened your account. First you might learn that it isn't Home Depot you have an account with but a credit company that issues a card with Home Depots name on it.

Second you may well find it tells how your payments are applied.

Don't take it out on Home Depot. The issue is that you didn't take time to understand the credit agreement you signed up for.
