Home Depot
Reviews and Complaints
Employees being annoying around me.
A while ago, I went to the Home Depot to look for faucet parts. I decided to browse around to see if there was anything else I wanted such as paint colors, caulk or garden supplies.
A male employee walked past me, then paused for a few seconds and said "Hello may I help you?" in an exaggerated way.
I said "No thank you. I'm just browsing around."
Another employee called out to me and said "Hi! It's cold out there isn't it? You should wear long underwear, it may help."
They noticed I was wearing full winter attire head to toe even though it wasn't that cold outside. I have a medical condition. I can't hold body heat well. I thanked him for his suggestion.
Then more employees said "Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" others calling out from behind their registers in an exaggerated way. I was losing my train of thought due to the repeated interruptions I was getting and walked to a different part of the store to try to remember what brand name faucet parts I was getting.
I checked my clothing to see if maybe my fly was open and that's why they were making fun of me. (I think they were, I'm not sure.) If they were making fun of me, maybe it was how I was dressed. I do get made fun of for my condition by some people.
The same male employee who hesitated, turned around and greeted me followed me to the secluded area and said "Hello can I help you?"
I said "No thank you. I just need to get my thoughts together."
He said "Ok let me know if you need anything."
I said ok. I turned around and all the sudden the same employees were walking past me, saying in a very exaggerated way "You finding everything ok?" with huge unnatural smiles.
I thought "That's it, I'm leaving. I'm going to go research online about ordering my parts from a reputable online vendor, not at this store that hires obvious nutjobs."
In fact I don't think I'd ever visit again. I think I'll tell everyone how annoying their employees are so they wont' shop there either. My friend recommended a wonderful home improvement store that's an alternative to Home Depot. I'll shop there from now on and NEVER at any Home Depot branch. That shows you how pissed I was. You can't even hear yourself think around them. They were probably well meaning but WAY too overbearing.
I was extremely confused. When I shopped there with friends in the past, this never happened to me, but all the sudden they acted as if they overdosed on medication or something. I don't even know why they were acting that way towards me.
If I wanted help, I would ask for it. There's no reason to ask me multiple times in an irritating way, getting up in my face. Stop freaking out your customers, they are trying to think. Why are you even doing this?
This happened at Home Depot, 11215 St Charles Rock Rd, Bridgeton, MO.

I have NEVER had a Home Depot employee greet me or ask me if I needed help... I do know they have a lot of theft, so I am sure the employees, based on your clothing, thought you were going to try to steal something. You should have gotten the manager and explained your situation.
I wonder if no one asked if the OP needed help if they would complain about that?
Probably, most likely what the OP forgot to mention was she was trying to steal and they were watching her, that is why she could not think clearly, why else would she be upset about them just doing their job, one tactic to deter shoplifting is to be overly friendly to the customer so that they know they are being watched. They are supposed to ask customers if they need help only once, the fact that they kept asking her if she needed help makes me wonder if she was stealing and the fact that she was nervous because they were just doing their jobs makes me even more suspicious.

Sorry I just laughed there.
I would have cussed that employee out and publicly humiliated them, had it be me. What a stup*d, azzhole, immature thing to say...
Its become the same way at all home depot stores apparently, as i frequently shop at two of them. It wasnt like this until recently, employees harassing the *** out of every customer who they pass by.
Its most likely the ingenious idea of some corporate *** who thinks they will increase sales by doing this. Its more likely they are gonna run off more customers than increase sales; i find it annoying as ***.
Ive gotten so fed up with the 'can i help you find something?' bs, that i just started completely ignoring them. Hopefully someday those *** will realize how *** irritating they are being and let their customers shop unharassed.
They're supposed to greet you. That's their job.
Did you expect them to do cartwheels too, just because they didn't have smiles on their faces? Can you smile at everyone constantly over an 8+ hour workday? I don't understand your complaint here.
There was no malice towards you. I bet had they ignored you, you'd complain about it too.
You may want to try the Chesterfield store. Much better than the Rock Rd.
or Page Ave.
stores. The comments made by others about your attire may be true.
I never get help at Home Depot, even had an employee ask me if I was planning to buy the washer/dryer set I was looking at. I said yes I would like to buy it right now, can you assist me and she then walked off and never returned.
The other extreme is what this customer experienced. Both extremes are annoying and there should be some happy medium. I would agree with those that suggested the employees were suspicious of your attire.
But what can you, right? Except educate them, if they get particularly annoying.
Yes I agree, way to many employees with absolutely nothing to do but annoy their customers and push them out the door. Sundays are the worst, there were so many employees at the front door greeting people I had to wait to get in the store.
Once inside employees asking if I needed help every 45 seconds. Meanwhile loosing my train of thought.
l rarley shop at home depot too annoying. Menards is better anyways.
