For the first time in over 35 years, I received a $40 late fee on a Home Depot check payment. I still don't believe it, and my bank statement doesn't, either.

Their statement said I was 2 days late. This surprises me, because I mailed the check a week prior to the due date. I checked my bank statement, and saw that the check cleared my bank the day after the due date (and before 2PM, which is when the bank changes from one day to the next). They then said they received the check one day after it cleared my bank.

Since I have 6 months "no interest", I must pay their $40 or incur accumulated interest, yet I have documentation that they received and applied my check earlier then they "say" they did.

The problem is Home Depot is big, I am little, and you can't fight City Hall.

Recommendation, if you must go to Home Depot, don't use their credit card. Use a legitimate card that knows you and wants to keep you as a customer. Home Depot lost me.

Citi owns Home Depot's credit cards. Are you saying CITI is not legitimate? Did you even call CITI to see if they would work with you on it? Most big credit companies are more than willing to do so.
